Jacob Weisberg of Slate writes about how the smell of gas makes Congressmen stupid. It's really tempting to say "They weren't already stupid?" but that would be disrespectful… and unecessary. Mailing $100 checks to everyone in the country? I don't want to step on the toes of the oil lobby, but can't we just make that a down payment on next-generation energy research?
